Flash Back 2017

This is the 1st season i did any growing in contaners
I was going though old picture folders on my PC
And found all my first year Shenanigans.

So a little back story before you pick me apart
I started this garden to serve a greater good.
I had a peeping-tom at my apartment complex.
I also had 2 teenage daughters and a wife.
I work full time so they are home alone.
After i caught the guy in the act twice ,
talk with the property manager twice ,
got in his face many times.
This man thought he was the landscaper
and told every new female that moved in
so. Then he would "landscape" in the middle of
the night with his pants down.
I put up gardens for privacy.
I have garden there he don't
need close to my apartment
It also served as a reason to keep a
eye on the perv.

So many "saw it on YouTube" mistakes
& bad ideas. Trial and error ,and a late start.
So please enjoy the madness.
So this is one of three pumpkin bed i started
Notice the spacing LOL!!!
This is literaly a old speaker box ,
that i knocked the face in to make a planter.
I made a matching one with the other speaker box
Just moved in , perv in the windows.
Pumpkin vines seem like a fast fix.

So on the same theme of through together a garden
with almost no money working
full time and fast as humanly postible
I planted these strawberries in old
end table drawers. i still had them from the
move and was going to throw them away.
Perfect planter boxes

A box made from garbage , it came off a subwoofer.
the plant never did much

This poor plant got transplanted don't worry :)
I was obsessed with propagating runners LOL
With all the strawberry plants i grew i got almost no
fruit. That is OK i had fun with them all the same.

I was SO HAPPY to see my first female flowers.
I didn't know at the time they where not exactly fruit
just yet. "I got 3 pumpkins woo woo"

I thought this leaf was hot snot at the time.

so this is something, its my first try with potatoes
I got these bags of amazon after a youtube video
I kind of have mixed feelings on them.
You can not put in one tader , and think you
are going to get a bag. That is just not
how it works. I have had good results with them,
but i have had to put in many sprouts to make
it work like advertised.
This is not that year :(
One thing to note , The taders where
extra sweet , like the best i have ever had.

so this i a great example of me
not knowing a thing. The small plants
fried , and the big one stunted.
NO clear planters !!

So this is some "Saw it on youtube" Care to guess
what one is garbage ?? The bottle grow tower.
It is made almost exclusively PETE plastic.
Don't get me wrong the concept works GREAT!!!
The PETE dose not. I have been recently thinking
about revisiting this with glass bottles.
The 5 gal. bucket DIY strawberry tower worked.
Plants did great , i should have spaced it better.

Yet another Planter made from a speaker box.

can you spot all three speak boxes LOL
So i didn't understand spacing for pumpkin/squash
this became a nightmare.

this was the evaluation of the two
"saw it on YouTube" projects.
The picture above actually worked very well.
It just has 2 problems that need adressed.
1. PETE needs replaced with glass
2. The bottom reservoir needs to have drain holes
It also needs to not be clear as it adds way to much heat

Now for the image below
Both designs worked, one justworks better. The top
bucket was far easier to make. The leftover
plastic made great plugs. The big issueswhere
Soil loss , and water drainage.
no matter how full i made the bucket
Drainage was a issue. It would puddle
and drain out the top layer of holes.
you see how this becomes a issue with a
design indended to be stackable and water
optimizing. It took me digging a hole in the
center of the top bucket and adding some
drain rock to the top to kind of make it work.
The bottom bucket worked by it self.
The flaps made nice little beds for the
plants. Knowing that i was adding a top
bucket at some time. I added a top layer of rocks.
It took longer , but it was the better design.
It just needs better spacing.
