This is the first year i have done
sunflowers since i was a child.
I made some small raised beds this
time because it was fast and easy.
I had access to some free mini pallets
from the local grocery store.
Mind made up , easy , free & recycled.
Pix to come
I used to check out the seeds on
my breaks at work and decided on
The Mammoth Russian Sunflower.
It boasted "enormous flowers" on the front
of the package. When i checked out the
specs on the back they where not exaggerating.
With plants growing 8-12 feet tall, topped
with 10-12 inch flowers. Yes please!!
I wanted something that would
add shade , and attract bees to my
garden beds. I must say they have
worked very well. The only thing i
have done different is spacing.
The package lists 20inch spacing.
I have placed them closer,
more like 8-10 inches at most.
I got my seeds from Plantation Products LLC.
I know its a tragic name for a company, and didn't
see the name when i bought them.
It only listed NK lawn & garden on the
front. None the less, the seeds i got
where great! Tossed them in the dirt and they
just took over.
Next season i will see if i can get on going
in a sub irrigated bucket system
